Limekiln Lake Campground Review: Loons, Lakes, and Adirondack Serenity

Limekiln Lake Campground was my final stop in the Adirondacks, and it was a memorable one.

I stayed directly on the water with unobstructed views across the lake. The setting immediately reminded me of Squam Lake in New Hampshire. Forested hills surround the lake, development is minimal, and the atmosphere feels wonderfully remote.

The campground is large and spread out along the shoreline. Sites offer plenty of privacy and access to the lake.

For anglers, Limekiln Lake offers excellent opportunities. While I didn't land anything photo-worthy during my stay, the lake is well known for fishing and provides plenty of shoreline and boating access.

Amenities include a boat launch, beach, bathhouses, shower facilities, water stations, and a dump station.

Kona loved the campground from the moment we arrived. Like every waterfront stop on the trip, she immediately found opportunities to swim and explore.

The highlight of the stay came after sunset. As darkness settled over the lake, loons began calling across the water. Their haunting calls echoed through the forest throughout the evening and into the early morning hours. It was one of those classic Adirondack moments you never forget.

The weather was cooler during my stay, and steady breezes helped keep the black flies under control. After battling insects throughout much of the trip, that alone felt like a luxury.
