Kalaloch Campground – Olympic National Park

Kalaloch Campground, located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula in Olympic National Park, is one of the park’s most scenic and popular camping spots. Perched on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, only a few campsites have direct ocean views, but the beach is just about 40 feet below the bluff.

The campground is large, with 160 well-spaced sites set amidst a lush coastal forest that thrives on the region's high annual rainfall.

During my stay in Section D, I enjoyed mornings with coffee while watching gray whales play in the surf right from my campsite.

The sites are all no-hookup, but the campground provides showers, bathrooms, and a dump station. Along the beach, there are plenty of tide pools to explore, and the Tree of Life, a short walk down the beach, is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Kalaloch.

Kalaloch is very popular, so planning ahead is important—reservations can be made through Recreation.gov, and the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis from November through April. Kona enjoyed it as well, with plenty of opportunities to swim in the ocean every day.
