One of our favorite stops on the way to the East Entrance to the Everglades is Robert’s Fruit Stand. They have a huge selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and local favorites. There is a smoothie and shake bar with delicious local fruits and they also have great Cuban sandwiches. The best part for families is out back where there is a large zoo where you can feed the animals. There is plenty of parking for your RV or trailer. A must visit on the way into the Everglades or if you are in Homestead FL. One of my favorite stops near the East Entrance to Everglades National Park is Robert’s Fruit Stand in Homestead FL. It has a large variety of fresh exotic and local fruits, a shake and smoothie bar (that also has great Cuban sandwiches), A BBQ food truck and a great zoo where the kids can feed the animals. These pictures don’t do it justice. There is plenty of parking for your RV or Trailer and you have to pass right by it to get to the park. Spent last night in Long Pine Key Campground in Everglades National Park. The sites are all well spaced out and don’t have hook ups. It’s all primitive camping and they have a section just for tent camping. The campground is next to a small lake with hiking trails around it. There are bathhouses on every row and a dump station. It was a clear night and the stars were out. In our morning walk out Merlin App identified 8 different song birds. Got to cross Hawaii off my list of states where I caught fish this year. I went out Marlin fishing with Caption Leverone on @sea_strike. We were trollling just off shore and Caption got us on the fish. Started the day off with a short billed spearfish and capped the day off with a 200lb Blue Marlin. The Blue Marlin was the most exciting fish I ever caught. It kept jumping out of the water and fighting the whole time. If you are ever in Kona and want to catch fish give Capt Leverone a call. Just got to Long Pine Key Campground in the Everglades🐊

When visiting Volcano National Park in Hawaii, I made a side trip to Akaka Falls State park near Hilo. There is a short .4 mile trail through dense rainforest to the 442 foot Akaka Falls. The is also a smaller 100 foot Kahuna falls on the trail. It’s a little out of the way to get to but well worth the trip. We watched a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch tonight from Space View Park in Titusville Florida. We were hoping to catch the Artemis II this week but that launch had been delayed but we may be able to catch another launch before the week is out. #rocketlaunch #spaceviewpark #rvadventures #spacecoastfl #

Getting ready to watch another rocket launch tonight

I was in Crystal Springs Florida and had to try swimming with the manatees. Kings bay is the only place you are allowed to swim with them. I went out on a tour with @naturesdiscoveryeco. I chose them because they have small group tours with a max of 6 people. It’s a 3 hour tour on a pontoon boat that includes masks and wetsuits. The hot chocolate on the way back hit the spot. We found a mom and baby napping and they would float up next to us and take breaths every few minutes. Definitely a must experience if you are in the area. Spent the last couple nights at St George’s Island State Park. I’m glad we finally got to stay here. We tried staying here last year but it was always booked up. They have large, well spaced out sites with water and electric. There is a dump station at the campground. It’s a short walk across the street to the beach and is connected to 2.5 miles of dog friendly trails. Due to endangered nesting sites dogs are not allowed on the beach in the park but there is plenty of access to public beaches just outside the park where dogs are allowed. #rvadventures #rvlifewithdogs #explorewithunity #fulltimerver #saintgeorgeislandstatepark

We took a pontoon ride around Lake of the Ozarks during the fall. We were staying at Sunny Beach RV Resort. It was the off season so there wasn’t much traffic out on the lake. Sunny Beach resort is right in the lake and has full hook up sites. The entrance road to the resort comes up really quick so keep an eye out. #sunnybeachrvresort #rvadventures #explorewithleisure #rvwithdogs

Last spring we spent 5 days in Yellowstone. We stayed in fishing bridge the first week it opened up early May. It was a great time to go..It wasn’t very crowded because a lot of the lodging hadn’t opened up yet and the wildlife was very active. #yellowstonenationalpark #yellowstonewildlife #rvadventures #lifeontheroad

We spent the last couple days at Falling Waters State Park in Chipley, Florida. The sites are well spaced out and large with water and electric and a dump station onsite. It only has 20 sites and there is a bathhouse. There are lots of hiking trails down to the lake and waterfalls and sinkholes. The is a separate picnic and playground area near the waterfalls that are popular with the day visitors. The trails are well marked and dogs are allowed on them. We visited during the dry period so there wasn’t much of a flow going over the waterfall but the sink holes were impressive. Another couple of California National Parks we visited was Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. We drove in on the general highway and were amazed at the shear mass of these trees. The drive was tight and we just made the length restrictions. There were plenty of stops and short hikes along the way. Once we crossed over the Kings Canyon some low cloud cover came in and the ride down 180 was a challenge as the visibility got down practically zero while we drove the clouds. Larger rigs will have trouble navigating and parking inside both parks and trailers aren’t allowed on the Generals Highway. We found a hidden gem in the Apalachicola National Forest in Florida. Camel Lake Campground is a small campground on an undeveloped lake with water and electric sites. There is a small beach and hiking trails around the lake. The sites are well spaced out and very large. Reservations are required on reservation.gov. There is a 2 mile dirt road that has a lot of pot holes but is very manageable. There is limited signal strength. I only had 1 bar on Verizon. It’s a great place for anyone looking for a quiet few days on a pristine lake. #apalachicolanationalforest #rvwithdogs#leisuretravelvans #rvadventures #floridacamping

We visited Pinnacles National Park and spent a few days in Pinnacle Campground. We went to the west entrance where the campground is and drove route 25. Route 25 was spectacular and worth the drive by itself. The campsites were large and spaced out and some had electric hook ups. It’s not a very dog friendly..they were welcome around the campground but not on any of the trails. You have to hike to most of the scenery, so we missed out on a few sites. There was a small store in the welcome center that had some snacks and beverages. We did drive over to the east side too, but there is no connecting roads through the park. In the spring we crossed another national park off the list.. we spent a few days in Yosemite National Park exploring the area. We stayed at Wawona Campground. The sites were very close together and there are length restrictions on a lot of them. Pay close attention when making you reservation. It’s a little bit of a drive to Yosemite Valley but it’s very close to Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Even in early spring the valley was packed and we had a lot of trouble finding spots to park our sprinter van. We spent the last few days at Silver Springs State park in Florida. Great State Park. Huge sites, very well spaced out plenty of hiking trails. The only reason that it doesn’t make a Kona favorite is no swimming because of the alligators🐊. There is a museum and a pioneer village with a few replica cabins and a good playground for kids. They have both full hook but and partial hook up sites and a dump station onsite. There is 57 sites and 10 cabins. The silver river is in the other side of the park where the manatees hang out. You can rent kayaks and canoes or take guided tours in electric boats. There is also hiking trails near the river where you can see the manatees from the banks. Revisiting National Parks we visited last year. We went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park end of October. Besides visiting the park we, also got some fishing in on the Gunnison and Uncompahgre Rivers and add Colorado on my list of states where I fished. I took advantage of a warm afternoon to go kayaking in Silver Springs State Park today. I took a 2 hours route along the Fort King Paddling Trail and back up the Silver Springs River. The year round 72 degree water attracts manatees all winter. The Fort King waterway meanders through park for 1.1 miles and comes out down stream on the Silver Springs River. You have your choice of renting regular kayaks, clear bottom kayaks or canoes. On the main river they have guided glass bottom boat tours. We stayed at Limestone Campground in Brantley Lake State Park in New Mexico when we explored Carlsbad Cavern National Park. We got off to an early start and had reserved the first available tickets. One the way in we saw a large group of mountain goats on the ride up to the visitors center. I decided to get right in line to the elevator and was one of the first people down into the cavern. There is an exhibit area before you get into the big room and I decided to wait to explore that on the way out. I was the first and only person in the big room for most of my walk around the 1.25 mile trail. The silence was golden and sights magical. I didn’t see another person till I met a group walking the trail backwards near the exhibit area. Definitely one of my favorite stops this year. One of our favorite drives this summer was Route 20 going through North Cascade National Park. Route 20 (also know as North Cascades Highway) is about 30 miles of mountain scenery, waterfalls, alpine lakes, and old growth forest. Leave plenty of time in you plan for all the pulloffs and scenic overlooks. We finished off the drive on western end of Route 20 outside the park at Alta Lake State Park where Kona enjoyed an end of the day swim. Back on the road again and we spent a few days at Manatee Springs State Park in Chiefland ,FL. The spring stays 72 degrees all year round and has swimming,fishing, kayak and canoe rentals and of course Manatees.. there is 80 RV and tent sites in the park and plenty of hiking and biking trails. It’s connected to the 32 mile nature coast trail. Class A and large trailers will not fit here.Double check your length and that you are getting an RV spot before booking. The rangers cannot help relocating you and you have to get back online to rebook and request a refund. Every-time I went out to explore the area around Valdez, I stopped at the Solomon Gulch Hatchery. One of our favorite Alaska stops was Valdez. We stopped there Labor Day weekend and were lucky to find a spot. There are a couple different campgrounds in town, along with plenty of food options and a grocery store. Unfortunately, things were starting to close down for the season and only one glacier tour was going out and the seas weren’t cooperating to go fish. It was the end of the spawn and there was a steady stream of bears and sea lions enjoying a smorgasbord of salmon. Anytime I went to the fishery I saw multiple black bears enjoying a feast right by the side of the road. It was our last stop heading south and I wish I had planned to stay longer. I had planned to take the ferry from Whittier but it stopped running for the season. While traveling through the Malheur National Forest we stayed at Trout Farms Campground in Prairie City, OR. With a name like that we had to check it out. The name was dead on. There is a pond with a feeder creek that is loaded with rainbow trout. It’s the kind of place the locals won’t tell you about. There was 6 primitive campsites well spaced out and the pond was 150 ft walk away. The bugs were everywhere, which is why there was so much fish the. There even was a curious otter the visited everytime I went fly fishing. There wasn’t any place for Kona to swim but there was a trail around the pond. It’s a fly fisherman’s dream but it’s very remote with no signal. My last day at the Tampa RV SuperShow.. It was cold and windy so it was less crowded than earlier in the week. My favorite purchase was a no spill water bowl. All you dog owners know what I talking about after cleaning up water every-time you drive somewhere. My best in show was the new Leisure Travel Unity TBX. Diamond Lake Campground is the perfect base camp for exploring Crater Lake National Monument. It has sound 200 well spaced out primitive sites spread out over a large portion of the West Bank. There are 51 lakeside sites with direct lake access for your kayak or paddleboard. There is also a boat launch in the park. Gas, diesel. and propane are a short drive north and a great pizza place just south. Kona’s favorite place to swim was at south shore pavilions a short drive away near south shore pizza. We enjoyed a few days in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Mitchell OR.. it’s a little out of the way and there is no signal out in the park so make sure you download your maps before you go. We found two great primitive campground on the off Long Creek Highway along the John Day River. Lone Pine Campground and Big Bend Campground are small primitive campground next to the river with both fishing and swimming spots. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short by Wildfire Activity in the area.. otherwise we would have definitely stayed longer.. While driving through Montana, I came across the CSKT Bison Range. I’m glad I made the side trip .. It’s was a relaxing 3 hour drive around a loop road with a wide variety of wildlife. There are a few shot hikes along the way. The welcome center was very informative and had a small store. If you are driving near Charlo MT on your way through, take the time to check it out. We visited Crater Lake National Park in mid July and parts of the park were still closed. The eastern section of Rim Drive hadn’t opened yet and was still buried under 72 feet of snow.
Even with the closures, we were able to drive the open portions of Rim Drive and stop at several viewpoints. The lake views were incredible and there was still a lot of snow around the rim.

Mesa Verde National Park - The main road winds up through the park up the Mesa Verde Plateau to the cliff dwellings. Built over 700 years ago, some of the dwellings are 4 stories tall. There are plenty of scenic pull outs along the way and I had no problem finding parking spots. After 3 days of delays, we finally got to see the space ex rocket launch at the Kennedy Space Center. The launch was on pad 40 so the best viewing was right from the campground. The launch was delayed 3 times today and was originally scheduled for 1:05pm and didn’t take off till 4:41pm.. We went to the space coast to catch a rocket launch.. We revisited our favorite spot in the area - Manatee Hammock RV park. It’s run by Brevard Country Parks and Recreation. The park is directly across the water from the Kennedy space complex. It’s the perfect place to visit the complex or watch a rocket launch. It has well spaced out full hook up sites, plenty of space to walk Kona, a long fishing pier and a huge dog park on the water.
