Newcomb Campground Review: The Perfect Base Camp for Exploring The Adirondacks

Newcomb Campground was a welcome change of pace after several days of primitive camping and boondocking.

Located near downtown Newcomb, the campground offers water and electric hookups along with a dump station. While many Adirondack campgrounds focus on rustic experiences, Newcomb provides enough amenities to recharge while still feeling connected to nature.

The campground itself is small, quiet, and beautifully maintained. Sites are spread throughout a pine forest and offer a good amount of privacy.

Although there any fishing directly within the campground, Newcomb Campground serves as an excellent base camp for exploring nearby rivers, lakes, and the headwaters of the Hudson River.

One of the biggest advantages for dog owners is its proximity to Newcomb Beach and Boat Launch. Kona thoroughly enjoyed swimming there after a hot day of travel.

The owners deserve special recognition. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share local recommendations.

During my stay I used Newcomb as a launching point for several adventures, including visits to The Wild Center, the North Creek Mosaic Project, and the headwaters of the Hudson River.

After spending days camping without hookups, having electricity during a stretch of hot weather was greatly appreciated. It allowed me to catch up on work, recharge equipment, and prepare for the next stage of the trip.

If you're looking for a comfortable base camp for exploring the central Adirondacks, Newcomb Campground is difficult to beat.
